A Whole New Ballgame:
The 1969 Washington Senators
Stephen Walker
Despite a long and uneven history, Major League Baseball’s Washington franchises have hardly been the stuff of legend. However, in 1969, when new owner Bob Short coaxed batting legend and rookie manager Ted Williams out of retirement, these annual no-names climbed out of the depths and straight into the hearts of Washington baseball fans starving for a winner. Led by The Capitol Punisher Frank Howard, whose tape measure home runs sometimes seemed like optical illusions, the Senators simply won ball games with a determination rarely seen in D.C. environs. A Whole New Ballgame showcases the 1969 Senators’ magical season, complete with player bios, photographs, stats, game action, and stories.

Hi Steve,
It was good to see you at both the SABR get together and the NatsFest last weekend.
It’s great you wrote a book on the Howard Senators. Great timing as I’m sure some kid will look at his statue and ask his Dad or Mom, who was Frank Howard?
Now they can just say, read the book son!
Do you have a specific link to your book, that shows a picture of it, etc? I went to the Pocol Press site but did not see your book.
Thanks and we’ll see you around,
Jay
Stephen,
We’d like to get you on SportsTalk in July.. How does your schedule look for July 3rd?
Could we get two review copies sent to us once we confirm a date and then give away a signed copy the night of your appearance?
Thanks!
Best Regards
